Daniel Keene was born in Feb. 1832 in Kentucky and died Mar. 29, 1918 in Taylor Co., Iowa. He served in Co. F, 56th U. S. Colored Infantry during the Civil War. He married Mary Jane Turner in 1856 at Columbia, Boone Co., Missouri. In 1878 he and his family moved to Taylor Co. Iowa where he leased land and began farming.
