William Cobb enlisted as a Private in Co. F 29th Iowa Infantry Regiment Aug. 9, 1862 at the age of 23. He was promoted to full 8th Corporal on Nov. 1, 1864 and to full 7th Corporal on Aug. 2, 1865.
