Elizabeth Bates, daughter of Gilbert Bates and Rachel Covey, was born in 1816 in Tennessee and died Dec. 18, 1876 near Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. She married Mathew Brown Golding April 14, 1831 in Shelby Co., Indiana. His obituary gives the marriage date as 1833. Source of death date: Death notice, Iowa South-west, Dec. 23, 1876.
