George was the son of Francis Holmes and​ Maria Story. He immigrated to the US in 1864. George married Mary E Culter about 1876. They were the parents of 7 children, 6 were living in 1900: Mary, Nellie, Rosa, George, and Ollie. William Holmes is buried beside George.
