Ezra was the son of Zenas Gifford and Sarah French Briggs. He married Ella Parsons on November 25, 1869. They were the parents of four children. Elmer Willis (1871-1872), Eva Inez, Mary I, and Lorena (1879-1885).
Ezra was a farmer all of his life, this had to be a difficult life for him as most of the farmers had many sons to help in the fields etc. but he had to manage alone.
He and Ella moved to Iowa in the spring or early summer of 1870, from Maine. Here he lived out his life.
