Fred was the son of Samuel Fitch (1822 - 1903) and Elizabeth Hazel Fitch (1826 - 1896). He married Lizzie Broker on 07 Mar 1891 in Volga,​ Clayton,​ Iowa. They were the parents of Eva, Leon, and Eleanor.
