Daniel was the son of Goddfried Wolter. He immigrated in 1874. He married Fredericka Schossow in August of 1880 in Winslow, Illinois. They had 14 children (5 died in infancy): Barney, Roy, Cora, Mary, Anna, Agnes, Dora, and others.
