James T. Johnston, son of William R. Johnston, Jr. and Elizabeth Garmor, was born Feb. 8, 1830 in Franklin Co., Pennsylvania and died April 14, 1918 at Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Anna Long Oct. 2,1855 at Chariton,Lucas Co., Iowa. She was born Aug. 14, 1835 in Greencastle, Putnam Co., Indiana, daughter of William M. P. Long and Hannah Pope, and died Dec. 23, 1908 at Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. Source of marriage date: Iowa Marriages, 1809-1992. James T. Johnston's birth place is given as Pennsylvania in all federal censuses and the 1895 Iowa state census except for the 1860 federal census and his obituary which give the birthplace as Hagerstown, Md.
