DENNIS GILLIAN, stationary engineer, machine shops Illinois Central Railroad, Dubuque; was born in County Antrim, Ireland, only two miles from Giant's Causeway, June 24, 1815; he grew up manhood, and served in the army under William IV; he served under Victoria when she was proclaimed Queen, and when she was crowned, and when she was married. In 1841, he came to Canada; he helped build the Con't.

the Prince Albert, the first iron boat built this side of the ocean; he saw the Parliament House burned there, April 8, 1850; he came to Iowa and settled in Dubuque, Sept. 1, 1850; he made the first boiler work dine in Dubuque. In 1863, he entered the employ of the Illinois Central Railroad, and has been connected with the company seventeen years. He married Miss Eliza J. McGowan, Con't.
