Joshua E. Nelson, son of Burgess Nelson and Nancy Ann Kimball, was born April 10,1842 in Illinois and died April 24, 1917 in Gravity, Taylor Co., Iowa. He enlisted as a Private in Co. F, 16th Illinois Infantry Regiment May 24, 1861, was promoted to full Corporal and mustered out July 8, 1865. Source: Illinois: Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men.
