William Henry Wire, son of Christian Ludwig Wire and Maria Wilhelmina Stebener, was born Feb. 28, 1836 in Baltimore Co., Maryland and died Sept. 1, 1918 in Gravity, Taylor Co., Iowa. He enlisted in Co. D, 30th Iowa Infantry Regiment Aug. 31, 1862 and was mustered out June 5, 1865 at Washington, D. C. Source: Roster & Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of Rebellion.
