Hyman Madison Howard, son of Harmon and Addie Howard, was born Aug. 29, 1825 in New York State and died Jan. 19, 1899 in Gravity, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Olive R. Avery Nov. 16, 1848 in Ashtabula Co., Ohio. He enlisted in Co. I, 82nd Ohio Infantry Regiment Nov. 28, 1861, was promoted to full Sergeant July 1, 1862, to 2nd Lieutenant Nov. 1, 1862 and mustered out Jan. 8, 1864.
