Mary was the 2nd of 12 children born to William M. Pray and Letitia Bennet. Her siblings: John, George, Wallace, Francis, Emerson, William, Lewis, Cora, Ida, Sarah and Rosey.

Based on her headstone, Mary's birthdate would have been 15 Feb 1858. Her parents were living in Washington township in Wapello County [southeast of Ottumwa] in 1860 so it's reasonable to assume that was the location of Mary's birth.

The family had moved to Wright township in Wayne Co. by 1870. However Mary was not living with her family in the 1880 census. It would be reasonable to assume that Mary was married by the time she was 23 but no additional information on her could be found at this time.
