The Clinton Advertiser Friday February 1, 1924 p. 9 Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Kearney, Mrs. J.L. Thornton, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Dalton, Mrs. Kate Marron, Mrs. Charles Lee, Frank Kearney, J.F. Dignan, Thos. McGinty, were at Grand Mound Wednesday to attend the funeral of the late Miss Anna Dalton.
The DeWitt Observer Thursday November 2, 1939 p. 5 Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Kearney and daughter Clare and son, Joe were in Cedar Rapids on Sunday when the visited with Sister Josepha and Joe Boyle.
Thanksgiving 1944 Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Kearney entertained at a family dinner in their home Sunday with the group including Pvt. and Mrs. Vincent Kearney and sons, Michael and Eddie, Joe Kearney of Fort Custer, Michigan, Clare Kearney and Lois Tuchfarber of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Kearney and family of Sterling, Ill. and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Troy and children, Billie and Peggy Ann.
!OBITUARY: Clinton Herald Monday July 29, 1957 p.8 Michael J. Kearney, 76, well known retired farmer who lived at 615 4th St. in DeWitt, died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at DeWitt Community hospital where he had been admitted Saturday. He had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic church. Rev. E.A. Cone, pastor, will celebrate the requiem high mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery here. The body reposes at the Hanrahan funeral home where friends may call after 6 p.m. today. Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Rev. Father Cone will lead the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday also at the funeral home. Mr. Kearney was born Aug. 2, 1880, in DeWitt, son of the late James and Susan Crowley Kearney. He was educated in St. Joseph's schools. He married Anna Boyle Oct. 6, 1908, in Sacred Heart cathedral at Davenport. Kearney farmed just east of here until he retired and moved to town six years ago. He was a charter member of Archbishop Hennessey council Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. William Troy of DeWitt and Miss Clare of Chicago, three sons, Francis of Monmouth, Ill., Vincent of Clinton, and Joseph of DeWitt, one brother, John of Davenport, and 18 grandchildren. Clinton Herald; Friday August 2, 1957 Last rites for Michael J. Kearney, retired DeWitt farmer were held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Hanrahan funeral home and at 9:30 o'clock in St. Joseph's Catholic church. Rev. E.A. Cone celebrated the requiem mass and gave the sermon. Pallbearers were Charles Mangan, Emil Grell, J. Yvo Floerchinger, V.E.Crowley, Earl Hynes, M.S. Skeffington, Leo Farber and Leo Kelly. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Among relatives and friends attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Will McCormick and son, John, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kane, Mrs. and Mrs. Don Kelly, all of Cedar Rapids; Charles McCormick and son Harold, Manchester; Mrs. Alice Barkley, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. John Kearney and son, Harold, Mrs. Louie Houar and son, John, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ruge and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kearney, Mrs. and Mrs. Jerry McGivern; Miss Margaret Crowley, Mr. and Mrs. J.V.McManus, Miss Nell Boyle, Mrs. Clarence Miller and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ruefor, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller, all of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Crowley, Clinton, and others from nearby towns.
