[Email]John Chase was born in 1841 in Weare, NH, the son of Nathan and Anna Gove Chase. He passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa September 16, 1913, having lived 72 years, 3 months and 6 days.
He leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Mrs Mary Brownell and Mrs NB Golden, and one brother Lindley M Chase. His father, mother, 3 brothers and one sister having preceded him to the great beyond.
Mr Chase's early life was spent in the east. At the age of 12 he came west with his father's family. He came to Clay County, Iowa in 1869 and homesteaded an 80 on section 12, Lincoln township. This reamining in his possession to the time of his death.
His parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters with their families came to Clay county at about the same time, each homesteading an 80 on the same section with him. Together they bravely met the hardships and privations of pioneer life.
Later 2 brothers and one sister moved away from this settlement, the father and mother having passed to thier eternal home. At this time one sister, Mrs Mary Brownell with whom he had made his home for some time, is the only one of the original homesteaders remaining on this section.
