Marion joined the service in 1918, Company M, 352d Infantry, 88th division out of Camp Dodge in Des Moines. He was sent to France, landing there in August, 1918. He remained there for nine months and was on the firing line ready to march to Metz when the armistice was signed.
He was killed after he was thrown from a mower when it hit a rock; he was pinned beneath a wheel. The accident occurred on the farm of Frank Cave.
