Marker on Cemetery entrance reads:
Lutheran families names Duwe, Just, Kietzmann, Liske, Nanke, Neuman, Pokrantz, and others began settling in this area in 1854. Worship Services were held in homes until 1868 when St. Martin's congregation was organized. Across the road a church and later a parsonage and school were built and used until 1916 when a new church was built in What Cheer. The land for the cemetery was donated by Johann G. Kietzmann. The land for the church and school was donated by Christoph Neumann.
