Civil War veteran. Enlisted as a Private in Company B, 1st Iowa Infantry from Johnson County, Iowa on June 13, 1861. Discharged for disability on April 22, 1862 at Sedalia, Missouri. Re-enlisted as a 3rd Sergeant in Company A, 22nd Iowa Infantry.
