Myron (1827-1889) married Sophia Grier, daughter of Thomas and Charity Borton Grier. Their four children were Elan (infant, 1860-1862), Evan (1863-1925), Edith (1865-1883) and Ethel (1868-1888. Sophia Whitney died and Myron remarried to Rosina Breniman and had four more children: Infant(name not known), Eugene (1872), Rudolph (1876) and Julia (1884.
Myron and Newton Whitney ran a general store, originally in Dresden, which declined when the railroad went through one mile to the west, and nearly everything in Dresden moved to Deep River. Hist. of Deep River Twp. in Hist. of Poweshiek Co.: Store kept by Whitney Bros. as early as 1856. Myron Whitney was the first clerk of the twp. He was appointed postmaster in 1857.
