HARLAN - George Henry Campbell, the son of William and Mamie (Elliott) Campbell was born April 30, 1891, on a farm in Audubon co. He was baptized in the Methodist faith, and as a small boy moved with his family to Shelby co., where he attended country school and graduated from Harlan High School.
May 2,1917, he married Ida Leucke at Harlan. They were the parents of seven children. After their marriage, they farmed in the Harlan area. He also hauled and delivered freight, and was a substitute rural mail carrier for 12 years. In 1960, he retired from farming and moved into Harlan. After the death of Ida Jan. 6, 1978, he continued to reside in his home in Harlan until Jan. 13,1983, when he became a resident of the Baptist Memorial Home. It was there that he died April 14, 1990 at age 98 years, 11 months and 15 days. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Harlan, and was an active member of Shelby County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Sheldon and a daughter, Delores; one grandson, Roger Rickers; two great-grandchildren; Steven E. Petersen and Shane M. Campbell; two brothers, Harold and Owen; two sisters, Leta and Lucille and three half brothers, Ivan, Ed and Dwane.
He is survived by three sons, Keith and Russell both of Harlan and Victor of Niantic, CT.; and one daughter, Phyllis (Quentin) Rickers of Harlan; one daughter-in-law, Betty Campbell of Harlan; and one son-in-law, Gerald W. Rock of Co. Bluffs; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three half-sisters, Imogene White and Arlene Montgomery both of Harlan and Adeline Tague of Minneapolis, MM.; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held April 17, 1990 at Pauley Funeral Home with Rev. Janne A. Clinton of First United Methodist Church in Harlan, officiating. Burial was in Harlan cemetery with Dan Rock, Scott Campbell, Douglas Rickers, Darwin Campbell, Kenneth E. Campbell and Victor D. Campbell, II as casketbearers.
