Charles Paulk, son of J. W. and Elvira (Miller) Paulk was born September 27, 1887, on a farm in Lincoln Township. He died at his home in Harlan September 9, 1952.
He lived with his parents on the farm for two years until they moved to Harlan where he attended the local schools and grew to manhood.
He was married September 29, 1915 to Ethel Turner. Two sons were born to this union.
In 1915 he became partner in the Boysen Clothing store with Hans Boysen after working as a clerk in this store for eight years. In 1917 he formed a partnership with Henry Hansen in the clothing business and the firm of Paulk and Hansen operated for 27 years.
When Mr Hansen sold his interest to R. J. Finn in 1944 the firm of Paulk and Finn was established in the same location.
Mr Paulk retired form active business in 1945 when he sold his partnership to his son, Gordon.
A charter member of the Harlan Kiwanis club, Mr Paulk was active in community affairs and a long time member of the Congregational church.
He is survived by his wife, his two sons, Gordon of Harlan and Robert of Lebanon, Indiana; five grandchildren, and five sisters, Mrs J.C. Gingery and Mrs Laura Oaks of Harlan; Miss Emma Paulk of Los Angeles, California; Gertrude Edsel of Louisville, Kentucky and Mrs Ester McLaren of Arcadia, California.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Pauley Funeral Home with the Rev. E.J. Arnold in charge of the service. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
