Harlan - Mary Valborg Christensen, daughter of Christian and Karen (Nielsen) Petersen was born Dec. 31, 1903, at Rorbeck. She attended country grade school and graduated in 1923 from Harlan High School.
July 25, 1923 she married Edwin M. Christensen at the church parsonage in Atlantic. To this union two children were born. They have been married for 71 years. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Priscilla Society and the Myrtue Memorial Hospital Auxiliary all of Harlan. She died at Myrtue Memorial Hospital Oct. 22, 1994 at age 90 years nine months and 21 days.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters - Peter, Nels, Stena, Bertha, Harry, Charles, Hannah and Esther.
She is survived by her husband Edwin M. Christensen of Harlan, well known for being associated with the Chevrolet and Buick automobile dealership in Harlan for over 60 years. She is also survived by her two children - Jean (Arthur) Doran of Harlan and Donald E. 'Duffy" Christensen (Elaine) of Rockledge, FL; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Oct. 25, 1994 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan with Rev. C.G. "Gary" Nienkamp officiating. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery with Alan Mores, Jim Halberslaben, Mike Cooper, Chuck Krumme, Terry Lauritsen and Gregory Drake casket bearers.
